Our "rebrand" JD1050 has been a real peach, No major issues since '87. It's sure enough a rebrand as it looks exactly like it's yanmar equal except for paint and emblems. Like Roy said check the knob first, but by now the tractor should have atleast had a hydraulic filter change. If I remember right judging from the numbering system change, a 990 is at least a couple years old and probably should have had it changed regardless of the hours. Just my 2 cents. Turn the key back to pre-heat and no lights on the dash turn on. I have replaced the ignition key switch, same results.

I have counter weight and loaded tires. The JD790 has the valves mounted on the rockshaft case under the seat. THe 990 rockshaft case is a different configuration. There is a valve on the top under the seat, and another valve on the left side of the case. JD offers a kit for each valve. P/N AM876765 fits the side valve; P/N CH13559 fits the valve on the top.

There is a company called Messick's that. specializes in David Brown parts. They sent me some things I needed. Maybe they can tell you about the valve gaps.
